At Avisi, because we like to stay sharp and have fun, we organize what we call ‘techdays’ every month.
The goal is to create a relaxed setting where we can all learn about and/or share new found technologies, techniques or methods. We either have speakers coming in or one of us does the presentation and every member of the team can submit ideas for potential techdays.
Techdays are on ‘Avisi’s time’ (vs. on employee’s private time), starting sometime after lunch. We always have a break about halfway through to enjoy some delicious pizza and ice cream, so people do go home a little later than usual - but their minds are as full as their bellies…
The events usually consist of a relatively short presentation followed by a hands-on session where we try and implement and/or apply whatever it is we just learned. It’s really a great opportunity to share our passion for development, learn something new and have fun with our fellow software engineers.
Just a couple of examples of some past techdays:
- Spring webservices (by Arjen Poutsma)
- Arduino: programming open-source single-board microcontrollers (by Gert-Jan van de Streek)
- Testautomation frameworks (by Rein Krul)
- RobotWar (by Marcel Heijmans) …One of my favorites, thanks Marcel!
We will announce upcoming techdays right here on this blog. You are most welcomed to attend! If you want to present something relating to exciting new technologies, techniques or methods, we’d love to hear from you! In both cases, just send me an email.
And keep coming back to the blog to see what’s coming up next…
